Wild Palms Hotel JdV, Sunnyvale, California MASTER THREAD
Two-story, roughly square motel, covered-corridor (open-air at ends) built around a pool, hot tub and fire pit. Located yards off two major streets Highway 82/El Camino Real and Wolfe Boulevard in a heavily retail/commercial area. Free guest parking, not universal around here, HR Santa Clara. Often amazingly cheap, on weekends for a Silicon Valley lodging. Easily accessible to SJC Airport by Lyft/Uber. No restaurant; snacks sold at front desk.
Mine was a two-night stay at $100/night. Check-in at the small motel lobby, just off the circular drive was a bit slow at 4:00PM before a second agent arrived. Efficient at the desk. No mention of Globalist status directly, but offered late check out. Upgraded behind-the-scenes (not mentioned by FD agent) to a pool view room which was mercifully quiet for this day-sleeper.
Room was small, <300sf?, with a built-in "cubby-hole" desk. Lots of plugs, but no USB ports. Monster (for room size) TV opposite bed. Alarm clock across the room from bed. Looked like Hyatt Regency bedding; felt roughly like a HR bed; HR carpeting(?). Shower over bathtub with plastic curtain. Bath products in large dispenser bottles. (Take 'em home for $6.) These bottles were by sink, not in tub area, so grab them before you get in. Raised-basin sink over counter.
Pretty pronounced perfume smell everywhere. I suppose open-to-the-air motels use this to cover scent of dampness. Things did seem clean.
Small, but decent, 24-hour fitness center with Precor treadmill and two elliptical machines, Schwinn spinning bike, some free weights and a weight machine. Water cooler and towels.
Free breakfast for all guests in a large room with tables of varying size. At 8:00AM, it was pretty nuts. They served Equator Coffee, which should have been good, but was watery. Speaking of watery, the oatmeal was really watery and was made with, not only water, but milk. There was chopped melon, overnight oats, folded egg things, bagels, english muffins, cereal and one kind of milk.
Overall, it served my purposes and was, I thought, a bargain. That's why I've posted the review. I can envision price-based interest and some wariness.
