HA doesn't care about or acknowledge any perks related to DL at all. In the past, I have resorted to paying the $50 or so to upgrade to HA first for the island hop because it has always worked out less expensive than paying to check two bags.

You both reference "DL Status" here. I'm not asking about waiving because of my DL DM status. I'm asking if they waive it because I'm flying on a Business class ticket that happens to be in Y for the first short segment.
