HA doesn't care about or acknowledge any perks related to DL at all. In the past, I have resorted to paying the $50 or so to upgrade to HA first for the island hop because it has always worked out less expensive than paying to check two bags.
While this is entirely accurate, my last two trips of checking in at HA in OGG for a OGG>HNL>SLC I've had the agent be nice and waive the fee (just for being nice, the agent and I both acknowledge there's zero benefit for DL status in such a case).
