Thanks for giving us a another review from a hotel out of the mainstream and
NOT in the Maldives
But Sao Paulo really does have has some tip-top hotels: sadly they come with an equally tip-top price tag!
Of the more price-accessible big brands, I rate the Intercontinental and the Tivoli because of their service/facilities and location (a block down from Paulista). The Hilton-Hilton is meh, and in an awkward location unless you need/want to be in Morumbi.
I stayed at the Canopy shortly after it opened, out of curiosity - it's a brand i didn't know, and one I still don't fully understand. It was an OK stay, but there was an element of forced hipness that irritated me a little. I'm not tempted to return, especially as the price now distorts the value proposition for a 3-star going on 4-star. Maybe a suite upgrade changes that, but I don't have your tenacity in blagging upgrades

.
The other canopy under my belt is the Dubai one. It gets a thumbs up, but (again) it seems to over-egg the room rates: the Hampton (next door) is rougher round the edges, but offers more solid value.
My Canopy-SP memory fades, but I don't remember any special conditions around the Diamond breakfast - so maybe that's a recent enhancement. My theory is that Hilton is a quintessentially US brand attracting US travellers, a group well represented among visitors to SP, and one in which Diamonds form a very significant part - so perhaps it's not surprising that hotels catering to that market adopt the minimum brand standards we see in the US.
I cross my fingers that phenomenon won't spread to the wider world of Hilton!!
