Amex Platinum UK Delayed Baggage Claim
Hi all,
Random, somewhat niche question. I had weekend trip with an airline which lost my checked baggage and returned it to my origin much later. I subsequently put in a claim for EUR 600 or so spread on two equal-ish purchases, one of which was paid with the Amex Platinum. This was for myself and P2 (though we went on separate flights) for multiple events we had that weekend (why else would I check a 32kg bag in for the weekend?).
After multiple months of back and forth, the airline (IB) came back 'approving' only one of the purchases (less than half the total amount). Coincidentally this is the purchase which was paid for on the Amex Platinum, with the other not being Amex as it was not accepted. I have two options:
1) Go back to the airline and fight for more (I doubt this will get anywhere as they are about as obtuse as they come); or
2) Try with Amex to cover what's missing.
The question I have is can I still claim with Amex Plat for the remainder of the claim? I believe I have GBP 300 limit, and technically they didn't cover my actual claim. I can provide documentation but given the airline has approved the Amex-paid portion of the claim, this may make things harder. I also want to be extremely careful as I do not want to appear as if this is fraud of any sort; it was a genuine, necessary purchase for a weekend of social events.
I've thought about calling Amex but given this is linked to insurance they wouldn't be able to answer anything...
Any input greatly appreciated!
