Mercure Rio Boutique Copacabana
Introduction Mercure Rio Boutique CopacabanaRecently renovated in 2021.My stay at this property was back in January this year. As I did not intend at the time to review my stay, I only have pictures of the room. The rest I have borrowed from the accor website for context. Location It is a beachfront hotel at the Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro. 15min drive from SDU and 30min from GIG. It is a great tourist location but there are nicer areas to stay in Rio. Check In Check in was smooth and the staff were very friendly. Everything was done whilst sitting in the lobby sofa. Late checkout at 3pm was granted without any problems. Drink voucher was also given. Room I had a 3 night stay and booked a Junior Suite. There are 4 Junior suites at the hotel. 2 on the second to higest floor and 2 on the second floor which features verandas. On the top floor there are 2 rooftop suites which are only bookable by contacting the hotel directly. I specifically requested a Junior suite on the second floor as I preferred a veranda. The room itself was spacious, clean and I was perfectly happy with it. The AC was very good, which is important as it can get very warm during summer in Rio. The veranda was big and featured a double sunbed. There was also an awning which could be controlled automatically with a remote.cOn the left there was a fully stocked minibar, nestpresso machine, kettle and a safe. There was a separate room with the shower and toilet. There were bathrobes and slippers, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shower caps and a shaving kit. View from the veranda.Welcome amenity consisted of 2 Brazilian Matte Leão drinks, OGLOBO biscuits and a small cake. One of the bedside laps stopped working during the second day. After a call to the reception, not even 5 minutes later an electrician showed up with a new lamp and the problem was resolved within only 10 - 15 minutes. Turndown service was provided each day and bathroom amenities and water were restocked. Each floor has a different colour scheme, some of the colours were yellow, orange, red, green and blue. My floor/room was blue which I was thankful for, as I did not care for the other colour schemes. Dining The hotel features Q Ceviche a Peruvian ceviche restaurant. I did not try it. This is also where breakfast is served and it was very good. Unfortunately I do not have any pictures of it. Overall Overall it was a great stay and I was pleasantly surprised by the very friendly staff. The hotels decor was perhaps not my cup of tea and I was grateful that my floor/room was in a pleasant colour. The Hotel is small and obviously lacks facilities. There is no pool or rooftop for instance. But it is a good boutique hotel with great service right in front of Copacabana. That being said, if you are staying in Copacabana it is hard not to book the Fairmont at the end of the beach, which is my favourite hotel in Rio.
