I did the phone call trick from the GH NY on a FFN and it worked fine.
It was a local call, and in a few hours it showed up on the statement on TV for $1, no asterisk (which I've learned here indicates a non eligible charge).

So I went to check out the next day, left the $1 on my credit card and my stay appeared on the statement.
