Delta/Air France Seat SNAFU
Beware of seat selection issues when purchasing through Delta. I purchase business class seats through Delta for a flight from Atlanta to Paris, operated by Air France. As discussed by others below, I was able to select seating for a Delta segment (Jacksonville FL to Atlanta GA), but not for the Air France (Atlanta to Paris) segment. As I made the purchase several months before the trip, I was not particularly concerned. Unfortunately, I again tried to select my business class seat on Air France the day before departure. Again, I was denied access to the Air France seat map. This time I contacted Delta by phone. I was informed that no seats were available in business class, the seats that I had booked and paid for 2 months previously. They did however offer me the option of flying economy and APPLYING (that's right!) for a refund upon my return. I then spent roughly 2 hours on the phone attempting to book another (inconvenient) option that involved a 4 hour drive to an alternate airport.
It seems that when you book and pay in full for Business Class via Delta for a flight offered by their partner, Air France, you may or may not actually be provided a seat. I guess the "Partners" aren't really talking to each other. To date I have filed an online complaint with Delta, to which I received a confirmation and notice that it might take more the 30 days to receive a detailed response. It's now been 40 days. No response....no compensation.
