I've read this thread 5x and I am still not understanding what to do.

Me: EXP
Partner: Not EXP (Gold?)

ORD LAX is much cheaper on Alaska than AA.

I want the ability to upgrade both of us if possible (complimentary is fine), but the price difference is almost 30% with the BofA deal -- significant.

If I book on Alaska's website, don't put in our AAdvantage numbers, call in to attach our AAdvantage numbers, will I still be eligible for EXP complimentary upgrade for both of us? Or should I just book on AA and ignore the ~30% savings?
