If the OP is still BAEC Silver, he would get free checked bags and Main Cabin Extra (extra-leg-room) seats even on a Basic Economy fare, but would lose refundability compared to an Avios redemption.

Given the choice between paying $180.60 per person with status benefits vs. 11,000 Avios+$37.40 per person, I'm not sure what I would do; I think that it's a close question.
