Among all airlines I have flown, Air Canada is the single airline that has the stupid rule that Frequent Flyer number cannot be changed on, or added to, on award tickets that are issued by partner airlines on AC metal. Some partners (such as Gol Smiles) issue all tickets with no FF number, and then AC refuses to add any FF number, even at check in time in the airport AC refuses to do that. AC agents keep saying that this is an award ticket and not eligible for mile earning, as if the only reason FF number shows up in the ticket is mileage accrual. A *G status through a partner gives one extra baggage, access to priority security lane, lounge, etc., many of which cannot be accessed in several airports if the status is not shown on the boarding pass. Showing a *G physical card is not a viable option for many passengers, because they are going the way of dinosaurs. Many flyers have the status but not physical card, and digital card is not accepted (again YYZ is an example).
Has anybody here ever managed (or is aware of a way) to add or change FF number on a partner issued award ticket (on AC metal)?
I am unable to change FF number for award ticket issued by Avianca (Lifemiles) on AC metal when I go to manage my booking on aircanada.com . Any trick to doing this online before check-in ?
EDIT: was able to edit the FF number via manage my booking on Avianca.com (not Lifemiles.com)
