As a Diamond/1K I can assure you that your success in using your status is directly related to how much suboptimal travel you are willing to do. If you don't mind crappy layovers, flying at off times, and flying horrible routes you can probably do all of that in style.

If your time is valuable to you I doubt the status will do much.
