Ticketed on AA on a codeshare operated by JAL. Cannot "Manage Booking" on JAL's website using any combination of the JAL PNR (found through aa.com) and AA or JAL flight number. No middle name on the ticket. Tried the JAL website in Japanese as well.

Strange, AA are normally quite capable of managing that. And the agreement between JAL and AA is that AA should manage it.
What booking class are you on, and does it allow for seat assignment in advance?
