Some news dump in China: Two Hyatt resorts in the island of Hainan are slated to open this November.
Grand Hyatt Shenzhou Peninsula (Cat. 4, possibly going up in the near future) is located in the city of Wanning. It's a 30-minute drive from the railway station and a 15-minute one from The Westin Shimei Bay Resort. Decor isn't flashy, but certainly passes for a GH in the region. Three pools occupy the resort, including one for Grand Club guests, similar to HR Phuket before it was amended.
Hyatt Regency Hainan Ocean Paradise (Cat. 2) is an accessory to the R&F Ocean Paradise (though I expect the hotel along with the theme park to be sold soon given R&F's current financial situations) in Lingshui. It's one of the very few luxury hotels in the area. Interior looks a bit funky to me, and facilities aren't up to par with other HRs in the region, probably explaining the lower prices and cat. rating. There is a Regency Club, and the HR logo is teal. The opening got delayed for quite a few times given local COVID guidances, and there're numerous complaints on FlyerTea (China's version of FlyerTalk) on abrupt reservation cancellations without any compensation or prior contact for guests booked directly from Hyatt channels.
If you're disappointed at the HR in Lingshui, the good news is there's another HR opening in Sanya's Tianli Bay very soon. Unfortunately the resort couldn't make it this year, but a better location (very close to CP Sanya Bay) and a wealthier developer (who also owns PH Auckland) sheds some more hope as the hotel opens it's doors next year. There's also another playful Hello Kitty-themed JdV property in Hainan under construction (the developer for this property owns GH Sanya Haitang Bay), but that would be another 3 years.
