I also got PC from Venture X and standard counter in the first rental after gaining the status. I applied a CDP in the reservation. Did you go straight to pick up a car and sorted out with the gate agent without visiting the counter at all?
Which airport you rented the car? Wonder if it depends on the location and/or agent....

BTW just for anyone's reference, we were able to just select a car and go to the gate no problem.
