If you are an alum of a U.S. college or university, have you checked to see whether your alma mater has a contract with Hertz (or Avis/Budget, National, etc.) that alumni are entitled to use for leisure travel? Both my undergraduate school and my graduate school have contracts with Hertz; for a five-day rental next month at OGG, both quote a weekly rate ($200+tax for a large sedan with the undergraduate rate code; $215+tax with the graduate rate code). Hertz explicitly welcomes alumni of both institutions to use the respective rate codes for their personal travel.
