DTW is indeed a better connecting airport when things/schedule work doing the connection there, but I wouldn’t say DTW is a better connecting city overall.

My worst US misconnect situations flying DL/NW happened at DTW. To this day, I would rather misconnect at ORD than misconnect at DTW. And so I choose ORD connections over DTW ones.
