Are all European airlines like that ? First time booked through a European airlines. I mostly used American or Qatar, Turkish, Emirates or Etihad. Never had these issues with them.
You will find horror stories with pretty much every airline, that said I do think TAP is worse on average than some others. My one bit of advice having had to deal with getting a refund from TAP is to be more aggressive with the charge back than you might be with another carrier.
