Upgrading from Economy Basic to Economy Standard
Hello, I'm hoping someone can answer this question...
I have a trip to Thailand booked for early 2023. I had trouble booking the flight online so I ended up calling Air Canada and booked flights via phone.
I booked "Economy Basic" and the agent explained the difference between Basic and Standard. No changes or cancellations with Basic. But she also told me that in the event I need to change my travel dates in the future, I could upgrade from Basic to Standard for ~$50 per flight per direction, and then change the flight. I would still be subject to a change fee and flight differential cost of course.
One of the members of my party may no longer be able to join us on our trip, so I'm looking to do what the agent described: Upgrade from Basic to Standard (paying the upgrade fee), and then changing the flight. I can't do this online. I've called Air Canada to enquire and am waiting for a call back (in 60-90 minutes).
Does anyone know if this is possible (upgrade from Basic to Standard, then switch travel dates)? Has anyone done this before? It seems like a fortuitous loophole and I'm doubting whether the agent's info is accurate.
This is an Economy (G) codeshare ticket with Air Canada and Thai Airways.
Thanks!
