Lo and behold, I was not surprised to see the fee on my AmEx statement. Does the airline have a responsibility to inform that they are charging you a fee and provide a receipt for the transaction? They should train their agents to be more consistent in telling people about it.
A similar thing happened to me yesterday. We were holding two First Class Saver reservations for a trip to Vegas today. Since I'm home sick, I called AA to reschedule the dates. At no time did the rep say anything about a fee. But moments later, I received an email showing a charge of $5.00 for each ticket that was re-booked. It doesn't seem they should even charge the fee for something where you HAVE to call because it cannot be done at aa.com. There seems no end to AA nickel and dime-ing us to death.
Note: I just looked at the receipt and supposedly the fee is for an "exchange," or so it says. Is there some kind of ticket change fee now in effect or is this indeed a "phone charge?"
