Information that you read is correct:

Exit plane and go to passport control
After passport control, collect bags.
Go through customs/exit to airport
Walk to LATAM, drop bags off, go upstairs through security and then to gate.

IIRC, dropping bags and security does not take much time.
What took the longest time for me last time was passport control, up to 40 mins.
