Hope this will help someone. I have Gold + Plat. Gold credit no problems, but plat suddenly stopped working, despite deleting the payment card, and re-adding the payment card numerous times. I kept getting error: “This payment method is already earning benefits on another Uber account.”
You can go to the Uber app, click Help -> Account and Payment Options -> Promos, Credits, Partnerships -> Amex Platinum Benefit.
Scroll ALL the way down, there’s a tiny text box to initiate a chat.
Tell them the last 4 of your platinum, and your issue, and they respond immediately. They fixed the issue immediately over chat.
Their auto response: “The reason you didn't automatically receive the benefit is because only one account per eligible Amex can receive it at a time. The benefit will default to applying to whichever account had the eligible card added first. That means if you ever previously added your Amex to another account, such as an account you no longer use or a family member's account, that account was receiving the benefit.”
However, the issue in my case is weirder: somehow my plat got removed from my account, and then Uber’s crappy backend IT automatically put the benefit on the last Uber which the Platinum was ever associated with: a very very old, dormant Uber account from a decade ago which I had no idea even existed.
I called Amex, they patched in Uber, who told me the above. Uber support was fantastic and nice, and they “merged” my prior dormant account with my current one so that this issue should never recur. After being a (gentle) Karen, a manager gave me an additional $45 courtesy credit to make up for the issue. (I noticed this problem months ago but didn’t have time to deal with it until now). Uber said usually this happens when cards are added to spouse’s account or children’s account, but this “dormant account” issue is rare.
Hope this helps someone!
