Besides that, you can get Diamond status from a credit card - so double elite night credits should be 100% irrelevant - and the negative impact on elite benefits of so many Diamond members is completely obvious.
A niche $450 annual fee card isn't behind the inflation of Diamond members as much as the effective rollover of status and all nights since 2019 along with lowering of requirements.
As all of that is being unwound, the double nights provide a "soft landing" to achieving status but is limiting it to those who actually stay frequently.
I enjoy benefits exceeding those of Titanium at upper end properties at Marriott and other chains, as well as boutiques, merely by booking with AMEX's Fine Hotels & Resort program. Noon check in, 4PM checkout, upgrade, breakfast, $100 property credit (beats your box of chocolates 'gift' huh?) and more value in 5x MR points that are useable in a wide variety of ways.
In effect, you're competing with all AMEX Platinum cardholders, like the college students they hand them out to, for upgrades at the most premium Marriott properties, where it matters most.
