You can have them in checked luggage if the broadcast feature is turned off.

My understanding it is the transmit feature which is the issue, as the coin cells are below the critical size. So if you have them powered off they will be acceptable.

There are plenty of data loggers which are used on aircraft to track location, temperature, etc. And they have features which disable the radio when above X speed or Y altitude. And have batteries within limits. So are acceptable in the hold.


Radio is ok in cabin as they can be turned off. For some Cat III landings on some planes. And in the cabin can have bigger batteries as easier to deal with a fire.
