I'm flying into Terminal B on an international red-eye that's scheduled to arrive at 6am – though it often lands between 5-5:30am – before completing my journey on Amtrak. This is my first time flying into EWR.

I have not yet purchased my Amtrak ticket, but how much time should I allow for a comfortable connection? 7:07am and 8:27am are the next Amtrak departures from EWR after I am due to land; I am leaning toward the latter to be safe even though it may be a long wait at the terminal.

I have GE but will have to wait a bit to retrieve checked baggage. Are there any landside amenities after clearing Customs that will be open to hole up at before hopping aboard the AirTrain over to the Amtrak station?
