If the goal is to get through immigration as quickly as possible I don't think it will matter much to you. AUS is not JFK. Rarely will there be long lines, and unlike some airports there is no immigration screening prior to collecting your bags. So you'll have to wait at the carousel no matter how quickly you get off the plane. Even if you have hand baggage only there will likely be only a minimal wait to clear immigration and customs.
