Made a mistake, how will this affect me?
Hi, I had an interesting incident with the CBSA coming back from the US (as a Canadian citizen). Basically I had set up an exchange with Apple where I picked up another watch and returned the old one I had purchased in Canada. This new one was a refurbished one. Essentially in a moment of sheer stupidity (basically panic, I've had a few times where I've done nothing wrong and CBSA has given me some trouble), I totally forgot to declare the Apple Watch (500ish USD value).
Add to that, I was driving around Buffalo so I was sketched out where I parked my car. So I ended up putting it under my passenger seat which made it look far more suspicious than it needed to be. Long story short they confronted me and I explained most of the situation. Granted I was having quite the panic attack at that point and trying to keep it together. I offered to pay the duties and they allowed me "in lieu of seizure". I had also crossed with my Nexus card and disclosed I had purchased 30 dollars in groceries, which was totally true and had receipts for. I also immediately had presented the receipt for the Apple device along with the exchange receipt.
I'm usually straight forward and honest, and will be during renewals. I figured I'd post here cause I've always complied with their rules, but this was just a lapse of judgement and I feel pretty awful about the whole situation. Fortunately the officer in charge was awesome and was straight forward with me which helped calm me down a bit when this whole thing went down.
Fortunately they didn't seize my NEXUS but they did mention I'd get pulled into secondary more often (which is totally fine, I always disclose everything, this was just a moment of panic due to an underlying condition I have). Will this affect me at all going forward with NEXUS renewals or anything?
