Delta Irrops Ticketing Snafu

Apologies if there is an existing thread this belongs in.

Yesterday, 5 OCT I was flying DCA-JFK-Madrid (Delta One). A mechanical (weather radar) on the DCA to JFK flight resulted in a diversion to Pittsburgh for a new aircraft. Obviously I called the Diamond desk while on the ground in Pittsburgh…and they said they couldn’t do anything until I landed at JFK but that I was protected on the Air Europa flight at 2205 (the Delta flight was at 1930) if we didn’t make it in time. Then during flight the Delta app said I was rebooked on the Air Europa flight in J. Landed at JFK at around 2045…but took 30 minutes for various planes to change out before we actually docked at Terminal 2. Rushed the shuttle over and got to the Air Europa flight at Terminal 4 (A gates) only to find out that they insisted I wasn’t ticketed and there was nothing they could do. Head over to the Sky Club and by then it was supposedly too late to put me on the 2300 AF flight to Paris (the Air Europa flight had closed) and so I’m flying out 24 hours later with all the potential hotel repercussions in Madrid etc.

All the Delta folks have been great btw and obviously they put me up in a hotel by JFK. My issue is with the rebooking on Air Europa that wasn’t. There were multiple options to get me to Madrid and every single one was gone because they didn’t ticket me on the one they said they did. (And that’s assuming things go right on the Thursday flight.) I thought the whole point of being Diamond (which I’ve been for a few years) is Irrops. Is there something I should have done different? I feel like something went way wrong (I understand the mechanical…my issue is with the fictional rebooking.)
