Having recently booked my first “expensive” trips since, and read the fine print, I’ve learned that IP Trip Cancellation insurance benefit is capped at $5,000 (“each Insured Person for up to five thousand ($5,000.00) dollars for each Covered Trip”) compared to SR and SP $10,000 (“up to ten thousand ($10,000.00) dollars per Covered Person").

I live in NY where annual multi-trip (cancellation/interruption) insurance is outlawed. Thinking about product changing back to SP or SR, thinking of the $95 or (effective) $250 as basically the premium for an annual policy and if I go the SP route bite the bullet at 2x vs 3x (for travel charges compared to SR and IP). Gotta run the numbers to see if the additional UR point for travel charges (SR vs SP) justifies the additional (effective) $155 AF. Thinking also about using AmEx Biz Plat for expensive trips but that would only be 1.5x and I prefer UR to MR. Wondering about any flaws in my logic and/or other considerations. Thank you.
Just wanted to thank you for crunching the numbers. I recently canceled my Sapphire Reserve and also have the Chase Ink Preferred, so I wasn't aware of the difference in coverage between $5000 and $10,000.
If you have a Chase Bonvoy card, you could also consider product changing to the Ritz. It has the same coverage as the CSR.
