It depends on which engines are installed. Different engines sound different. The 737 NGs have the CFM engine; the MAX have the Leap-1B. Some of the A320 family have the CFM but others have the IAE V2500 and the neos have the Leap-1A or PW1000G.
not fluent in Airbus or NG/MAX, since my Boeing Flight Test experience was back in the 737-200 days when we were dealing with all the variants of the JT8D (-7, -7A, -9, -11, -15 with and without exhaust mixers, -17 with and without mixers) ... each of the three manufacturers of high-bypass engines for the wide-body fleets also had multiple models
bottom line -- it's pretty well impossible to generalize
