Wife and I are here now. Titanium elite status no longer gets Star Class (I was told that changed a few months ago). But Titanium elites still given access to the Star Class pool. We weren't initially given an upgrade, but after talking with their Bonvoy elite concierge, he got us an upgrade from a base room to a Director's suite.
We've eaten at the Teppanyaki and the Steakhouse restaurants so far. We've enjoyed both. My biggest complaint with the restaurants are their size and their hours. The food was just fine. The restaurants, except the buffet, are very small with limited seating. That seems to translate into lines. So don't expect to get seated very quickly (and the hotel isn't even very crowded right now, so I'd hate to be here when it is full). Also, only a few of the restaurants are open for lunch, but even then between about 3:30pm and 6pm, there are only two restaurants open (the sports bar which carries only one beer and the burger restaurant.) So if you don't want sports bar type food, your only option is room service. Don't expect much from room service though. Their menu is very limited. A few starters to choose from, some sandwich options and a base spaghetti plate and 2 desserts or a fruit cup. In fact, you can't even order your drinks via the TV ordering. If you want something to drink, you will have to call in your order. And you can only order drinks that they put into your small refrigerator (Pepsi, 7-Up, Diet Pepsi, water, 2 beers and a couple of juice options.) Note that Star Class does get a few more options to order from and a few other small benefits. But I agree with the previous posters stating that it isn't worth anywhere near the $65/person/night they would charge you for it. I wouldn't even pay $10/person/night for it. There is a coffee shop, but it too has a fairly limited menu. My wife likes to have a Chai tea in the morning, but they don't carry it. For tea, they have some Bigelow tea bags to choose from and that is about it for tea (luckily we brought our own.)
As far as the Director's Suite goes, it is much larger than their base rooms and it comes with snacks in the room and some liquors, neither of which are in the base rooms. It also comes with 2 bathrooms (each with their own showers), 2 TVs, a much larger balcony, and a separate living area from the bedroom. If I were given the choice between being given the room upgrade or full Star Class access, it would be an easy choice as I'd go with the Director's suite upgrade every time.
At the end of the day, Planet Hollywood is a big step down from the Cancun Hyatt Ziva (which we stayed a year or so ago) but it is decent and the employees here all seem to be genuinely attentive and nice. Be careful of the prices they want to charge for a lot of things though. For an all-inclusive, there is a large list of items that come with an additional cost. While I'm not unhappy with the overall experience, if I come back to Costa Rica, I'll probably try somewhere else.
