Honestly, there are few-to-zero lounges anywhere in the world that would be worth traveling to on their own, so I'd really just stick to researching places you're interested in and then seeing if you come across any lounges organically (on the Hyatt site they would be selling "club rooms" or rooms with "club access") Then do some further research to find out if the lounge is of decent quality. I get that it could tip the scales for your choice in hotel or even destination city, but I wouldn't look at a list of lounges and then travel to a city based on that.
Completely disagree with most things you say. Lounges generally did not fluctuate between open or clsoed. Most Hyatt Regency Clubs only closed in the off season and were consistently open the rest of the year. For example in Palm Springs or Phoenix at times they would close in the summer as hotel demand was low in the off season.
As far as planning destinations, lounges were a big reason I would choose to travel to a specific location. In the spring choose Phoenix so I can go to the Gainey Ranch - terrific lounge at a nice resort (lounge closed) Grand Hyatt Seattle - used to go there for the lounge and great downtown Seattle location (closed lounge) Kauai - fantastic lounge with great concierge that would help plan holiday activities (lounge is now open)
The list goes on and on. Huge, if not best perk about Globalist.
Anyhow I think I could put a list of lounges that are open/closed would be a great thread. I think we don't need to add hotels that pre-covid didn't have a Regency Club. I can contribute to the limited Hyatt's I have been to
HR Vancouver - CLOSED
HR Calgary - OPEN
Grand Seattle - CLOSED
HR Gainey Ranch - CLOSED
Grand Kauai - OPEN
