Just spent 3 days here last week on a PointSavers Redemption: 124,000 points and $160. Used my SNAs and was upgraded to a JW Umey Corner Balcony Ocean Front Suite. The room was simply amazing, plenty of pics online of these suites. We were in F414, top floor, overlooking the Griffin Club, SPA, and Adult Pool.
PROS: Great service by staff, super responsive and quickly learned our names. Comp breakfast as a Titanium was a very nice continental... Bread basket, fruit and granola in large bowl, coffee, juice, etc. Paid the $22 upgrade fee two mornings because it was simply the best breakfast buffet that Mrs Slpybear and I have had. Too much to mention but will recommend the Chilaques, and fried bananas. Steak, Eggs, Omelets, benedict, fruits, etc. Just do it once to try for sure. The bar and waitstaff were quick with drinks and umbrellas. Valet was super fast with our rental. And the grounds were very beautiful. We enjoyed our balcony every night with wine, the ocean, and the stars. Coffee in the mornings watching the sun rise was equally great.
CONS: It was pretty warm this time of year. Like, Humidity 55% and higher, heat indexes of 100F+ each day. The hotel AC in our room struggled, but just barely kept it cool enough to be comfortable. Our room had huge windows and that would take the full force of the afternoon and evening sun, so we knew it would be rough. There is almost no AC in the stores, restaurants, lobby of the hotel. But its Mexico, so we are used to this, but be aware. Online reviews mention the hotel needs maintenance and repair and commonly cite the pools as an issue. I think overall the hotel is in great shape and crews were out everyday of our stay painting, gardening, etc. The problem with the pools is that they were installed with a 100% 1" mosaic tile finish... bottom, sides, spill overs, etc. and that is a NIGHTMARE to maintain. There will never be a time when there are significant pieces of tile missing. Outside of that, the hotel looks really good to us.
Looking at the prices I think this was an over 2.5 cents redemption counting the upgrade. It was well worth it!
