I've had a bit of experience with this issue over the last few months. Not sure if this applies to you..

1) IHG hotels routinely allocate far more bandwidth to users that connect via their room number vs via the visitor code-even though both options are on the same WiFi network and sign in page.

The problem I have found is that my phone remembers this visitor connection (when needing Internet at checkin) and then it becomes impossible to sign in via room number after I've checked in. No amount of forgetting the WiFi connection or resetting settings seems to work for me- I have to wait for the connection to expire. Have spent hours on support calls with various hotel support desk and not fixed the problem.

Recent examples..
CP Changi Airport: Visitor 1.2 mbs / Room 35mbs
IC Kuala Lumpur: Visitor 5 mbs / Room 28mbs

2) Usually IT support at the property can allocate more data to your device(s). I had a Dubai property find my 2 devices on their network and then allocate more bandwidth. I immediately went from 5mbs download speeds to over 50mbs and this lasted for my entire stay.
