The article isn’t comparing Google and Southwest’s tech. It’s comparing their company cultures, both of which historically advertised themselves as more “fun” and down-to-earth than their old-school counterparts, like IBM or AA respectively. Except now that both are more well-established and the free money fun faucet is off, they’re starting to act more traditional. Employees who have been around a while don’t like this, and are complaining they miss the “good ol days.”
I found the comparison pretty reasonable.
