Bremerton is on the Kitsap Peninsula, which is separated from Seattle by Puget Sound; the Sound is traversed by regular ferries which carry both passengers and vehicles, and by "fast ferries," which carry passengers only. But it's not necessary to cross Puget Sound to get from Seattle to Bremerton: one can drive Southwest from Seattle to Tacoma, and then Northwest from Tacoma to Bremerton.
