I’ve stayed at Hamptons in the UK a lot recently. For diamonds there isn’t much going for them - usually I am offered one candy bar and one can or bottle of soda. In Croydon, London they only offered bottled water.
But what I like is the consistency - IMO there is relatively little difference between individual Hamptons compared with the vast range of DT and full service Hilton properties, and I take a lot of advice from here about which of the latter are worth it and which aren’t. Gyms are fine and the WiFi is usually excellent. I mostly like the breakfast (which is freshest at the start of service when the breakfast area also tends to be quietest); rooms are predictable and many UK properties are very new too.
London prices have been crazy - one or two Hamptons have been the only relatively inexpensive places for me to stay in the last year or so.
In the past, I have enjoyed Hamptons as mattress runs and had some sweet 5-night redemption rates too both in the UK and US.
To summarize I guess you hit the nail on the head perfectly - diamond status doesn’t really buy much.
