And then I get a total moron agent who wasted an hour of my time last night but its my fault in part b/c I could tell he was clueless but I stayed on with him. Only to find today nothing he said was done really was done.
All I wanted to do was switch a SIN-SYD to SIN-MEL award. Same 40K miles. Taxes maybe off by a few dollars. Why cant their system just switch it and credit the few bucks in taxes and be done. Its ridiculous they have to cancel the first and redeposit miles and then do a whole separate ticketing of the other.
That aside, you cant do anything on their site with miles how you can with DL & UA. Sometimes with AA they get redeposited and sometimes they dont.
This agent was so incompetent. I am starting all over today.
No arguments regarding AA's IT.
In the future, to save yourself from playing AA phone rep roulette, I believe you can do this yourself.
Place the new desired route on hold, then cancel your current booking online, and once the mile are re-deposited - usually instant for me - pay for your new booking. Or if you have enough miles to float both bookings, then book the second one and cancel the original after the second one tickets.
This way, the only reason you would have to call is if the miles are not redeposited. and that is
normally straight forward for a phone rep.
