LOL. Thanks
hugolover. Let's say it wouldn't have been my first choice. But during August and the Festival, it seemed to be the best of a ridiculously priced bad lot.
Where to start... Strange but pleasant-ish old world hotel. The positives: Great location and nice exterior.
After that, not so much. We arrived at 11:30pm-ish and were greeted by a well staffed but challenged front desk. Our check-in woman wound up assigning the boys a room that was already occupied, as in they opened the door to find a couple in bed... thankfully sleeping.

. She also made a big deal about our FHR benefits include complimentary room upgrades. That was pretty funny considering that the hotel was sold out there were no upgrades available. My first room was on the top floor which seemed like a block away, down a narrow hallway and with two port holes for windows. I headed downstairs and switched rooms to something on the 2nd floor with normal size windows and at least in the same time zone as the front desk and (tiny) elevators. Despite a $100 F&B credit, the hotel bar was so depressing that we passed and headed out for much more pleasant Edinburgh bar hopping. Breakfast was OK in a pleasant atrium restaurant. But I will never, ever have another Traditional Scottish Breakfast.
