Ah interesting! I was not aware of the numerous restrictions on the auto-upgrade. No wonder why I think I have only received auto-upgrade once in about 10+ stays (Hiltons anywhere) since the introduction of the concept.
My latest stay at Conrad Istanbul had high occupancy despite many room types being available online so that would explain the lack of upgrade originally.
