Taksim square is a stampede waiting to happen. I am not sure what's the hype about that place. Just walk outside at the airport and take a cab which likely will be for around $30 to $40. Stay by the water and away from Taksim square or otherwise you'll waste your day getting stuck in traffic in and out of Taksim.
