The issue could be the increased traffic through the J cabin which i would not enjoy. Agree that a couple of cheap snacks is not a major issue and self-upgrading is.
I remember a self-service bar was there when I flew in A6-EBO, it was a 2-class config 77W, and it was by the L2/R2 door. This was back in 2016 though.
I remember this vividly because the purser liked my passion for aviation (yes, when I was a kid, I used to hang out in the galley all the time), he even gave me all the Lay's packets that were remaining after the flight to take home.
