I don't think that's a button. I have 4 AirTags and none of them does anything if I press the silver part. I think the reason the holder exposes that silver side (logo side) is for the sound to be louder. The sound (beeps) comes out from the silver side. They could make a case that cover the whole thing but then if you try to ring it, the sound would be super muffled.
