Regulation 261 won't apply as the journey is entirely outside Europe, if it did you'd be able to argue for a 70% refund of Avios and YQ/cash component on the sector.

If you're going to do it anyway then you may as well get on with it – you can still cancel under the normal terms for reward bookings if you feel so inclined.
