Hotel Indigo Edinburgh

Hotel Indigo Edinburgh (York Place)
This hotel is just called "Hotel Indigo Edinburgh". There is another Indigo nearby called "Hotel Indigo Edinburgh - Princes Street".

What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked double standard, not sure what I got but possibly King premium.

How are the rooms?
Hotel is in an old terrace so there were limitations on what is possible. Entrance is by steps only, and there are a number of steps to negotiate from the lift to the furthest rooms on each floor. Floors are very creaky. Interior design was done to a high standard but the building foundations and windows can't be altered. Lots of space in the centre of the room but the bathroom is very narrow. Windows could be opened. Mine faced the shopping centre car park at the back.

Bed is two singles pushed together. TV faces bed - so you are forced to sit on the bed if you want to watch it. Table is glass-topped. No towel hooks in bathroom - you have to walk quite far to retrieve towel after shower. Shower water temperature fluctuated. Bathroom floor floods. Free wifi for all and lots of plugs. There are no ceiling lights, I was able to adjust the table lamp's lampshade to make the table area a bit brighter so I could work - but I guess this is not intended as a business hotel.

How is the exec. lounge?
None

What was good and what was bad?
Good - staff very cheerful and enthusiastic.
Received both points and diamond breakfast. This is a continental buffet plus one hot dish from a menu, options include eggs benedict/royale. Breakfast room is quite small so you are required to book an approximate time you want to eat (not really a covid measure). Times are 7am - 10(weekdays) or 11(weekends).
There was a free "minibar" which contained 2 waters, 2 Irn Brus and 2 Tunnocks.
Location is excellent and easily accessed from the rail station through the shopping centre, down one floor then go around the corner.

Bad - the tram no longer stops in front of the entrance though it still reverses at the former stop whilst the line is being extended.
As mentioned, the layout is a bit awkward but there was only so much they could do given this building.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Definitely at 24000 points. Was originally higher so had booked elsewhere, but the day before my stay I suddenly noticed the price drop to 24k so decided to snap it up. Glad I did so because it turned out that I actually needed this very central location rather than staying in a suburban hotel.
