Thanks for your replies guys!

Sadly, as expected, at midnight the earlier flights were still full. On MMB I was offered one LHR Club upgrade for ~£500, and change to LCY economy for £~250, neither of which were that appealing!

Thankfully, I found a really helpful member of ground staff who had just closed a previous flight, and was sat tapping away at her computer. After explaining my situation, she tapped away again, and said that I could get a seat on the flight that was delayed as some people still hadn't checked in despite that fact that it should've been boarding already. Happy days! I even got an exit row! Saved me from hanging around AMS for 8 hours. I've never been so happy to have night a Plus ticket!

With the delay I even had time to visit the terribly overcrowded Aspire lounge (they were denying entry to PP etc, just airline customers allowed in)
