sounds like a very odd escape last time unless you are a US citizen or resident. It’s definitely required and ba are definitely checking them. If you don’t have a jab certificate you shouldn’t be let in to the US otherwise unless there exceptional circumstances. Normal entry is only allowed for those who are fully vaccinated and airlines should be checking.
