The miles required for each flight is the same. That doesn’t mean they are all booking into T class. If the flight you are interested in doesn’t have T award space availability, you can’t book it in conjunction with a Partner award. You options would be to take the earlier flight or redeem a second award for the flight you want.

You can check availability of award space on third party subscription services like ExpertFlyer. You can't see what fare class an award will book into on AS, however, when a particular flight won't combine with a partner award, it is apparent it doesn't have T class availability. You are assuming that since all flights have the same redemption cost, they are all T class.

If you provide the date in question, I am sure any number of posters would be happy to confirm it for you.

I'm sorry, I was mistaken: The 3.35pm flight that I booked (together with the Sydney flight) was indeed booked in class T, but the later 2 flights do not have class T available.

Good to know that class T is what's required to connect. As often, folks on flyertalk provide info that an airline rep could not provide!

What are the odds of fare class T opening up at later date?
