I'm trying to book a ticket SEA to SYD with Miles in Economy class.

When I search for that same itinerary (on the same date) with cash, these neat connections show:

However, when I search for the same itinerary with Miles, the last two options from above do not show. It forces me to take the flight landing at 6.16pm and wait for over 4 hours in LAX.

If I do a search to look for the flights SEA to LAX with Miles, I see that all 3 flights are available, all for the same cost in Economy, all available in Fare Class T:

Why is it refusing to issue my award ticket on the better connections, if they have award space for the same cost? Does the award ticket have longer minimum connecting times than a revenue ticket?
How are you confirming that there is T class award inventory availability? SEA-LAX is 954 miles. For AS awards, that is a SKIP award. SKIP awards start at 7,500 miles.

The miles required for each flight is the same. That doesn’t mean they are all booking into T class. If the flight you are interested in doesn’t have T award space availability, you can’t book it in conjunction with a Partner award. You options would be to take the earlier flight or redeem a second award for the flight you want.

You can check availability of award space on third party subscription services like ExpertFlyer. You can't see what fare class an award will book into on AS, however, when a particular flight won't combine with a partner award, it is apparent it doesn't have T class availability. You are assuming that since all flights have the same redemption cost, they are all T class.

If you provide the date in question, I am sure any number of posters would be happy to confirm it for you.
