Park Hyatt Doha = Nice Hotel in New Urban Neighborhood
Introduction There was a review of Park Hyatt Doha by a blogger not long ago where the writer was quite negative and stated he will not return unless management changes. He was mostly upset because he had to fight for a suite upgrade; I kept my reservation anyway to at least give them a chance once. Based on my stay in my opinion Globalists intentionally choosing to stay away would be like shooting ourselves in the foot, it would be a pity to actively avoid this hotel. I can highly recommend it. Location In previous stays in Doha most of the hotels I tried tended to be in resort-type locations such that it is fine to stay in the hotel and relax, but not overly convenient if you want to get out because there is not much around the hotel property. Some examples would be Grand Hyatt, Ritz Carlton, and St.Regis. In contrast, Park Hyatt is more urban in a neighborhood which was recently built from the ground up (Msheireb). The hotel is also on a direct metro line to the airport but since PH is closer to the airport than many other hotels anyway, a taxi was very cheap via Uber. Room I was proactively informed ahead of time via e-mail that I would receive a Globalist suite upgrade; they also welcomed me to the hotel and asked for preferences. The extra pillows were available in the room as ordered and we received gift for our daughter (hotel branded camel) with a hotel gift bag which was a nice touch. The Park Suite itself was very spacious at 90 sqm, had the convenient extra bathroom near the entrance, and since this hotel is fairly new (opened in December 2019) it had modern features such as electric curtains and a TV in the bathroom. The soundproofing was excellent even from within the room: the doors were very thick and if closing the door between the living room and the bedroom it was very hard to hear noise from the other side. My only two negatives about the room would be that it lacked a bit of local flavor – there was nothing Qatari or Middle Eastern about it, and I wish there was less use of carpet because it made the living room look more aging than it actually was. Dining The breakfast was on par with what I would expect for a Park Hyatt in the Middle East with an interesting a la carte menu combined with a buffet which had decent selection. Service Service was excellent throughout our stay. The manager who e-mailed me prior to our arrival stopped by during our first breakfast for a face to face greeting which was nice. Later during our stay, we wanted to find a grocery store but we needed a covid tracing app to enter the shopping mall which I had not installed on my phone yet, so the hotel concierge walked there with us to get us access to the mall with his phone (5-min walk from the hotel) which was great personal service. I later had to install that app anyway because it was required to enter the airport upon departure but I kept getting error messages. Various staff at reception did their best to help me by providing me a local phone number (as we suspected my foreign phone might have been causing part of the problem), then they called Qatar Airways to ask if there was an alternative to enter the airport, they also called the airport operations, and called the app help desk to submit a ticket. They really went above and beyond to ensure I could finally activate the tracing app before checking out of the hotel. Wifi Wifi worked well with speed of 65 Mbps. Overall Overall our stay was solid and especially for stays where I want to be in the city rather than be captive in a resort style hotel, Park Hyatt will be a good choice that I will return to.
